¡Qué es Sucot?
La festividad de Sucot, comienza el día 15 de Tishrei (10 de Octubre) y continúa por siete días. En estos días de festejo, dejamos la comodidad de nuestros hogares durante una semana y habitamos en una Sucá, una cabaña de tres paredes (como mínimo) con un techo de paja al aire libre, recordando así, el camino de nuestros antepasados por el desierto luego de la salida de Egipto.
Sucot, es también el comienzo del año en lo cotidiano, siendo posible aplicar los cambios propuestos, y es el momento en que nos reunimos con nuestros seres queridos y amigos, para vivenciar una festividad única.
¿Qué Festejamos en Sucot?
La Torá le da dos nombres distintos a la festividad de Sucot, le llama “Jag a Sucot” y “Jag Hasif.” “Sucot” es el plural de Sucá, así se le llamaban a las tiendas que los judíos usaban en el desierto al viajar y ahora le llamamos así a una especie de cabañas que construimos durante la festividad. Mientras que “Hasif” quiere decir “cosecha.”
En Sucot se festejaba tanto la época del desierto como las cosechas que ocurren en ese tiempo, incluso se considera que éste es el tiempo en que HaShem juzga la cantidad de agua (lluvia) que habrá en el siguiente año; en épocas del Templo solía hacerse una ceremonia de libación donde se lleva el agua de Shiló al Templo.
Las Sucot representan la presencia de HaShem en el mundo y los medios que tenemos para acceder a ella, es a la vez una celebración que recuerda la historia del pueblo judío en el desierto y la capacidad del individuo de encontrar espiritualidad en el mundo.
